Feral as an Initiation

Feral. Such a good word. I feel it in my belly. I just did a dive into its origin and meaning. It comes from the Latin word fera. Which means wild animal. Nothing else attached. Just a descriptive word for an animal being its animal self. One that is not domesticated or tamed or pushed into living a life that is not true. In the 1600's it slipped into English and picked up the spelling of feral. And English writers started projecting onto the word. A wild animal was dangerous in their eyes. Bad. Scary. Something to avoid or control. This is how a neutral word that originally just described an untamed animal became tinged with a negative connotation. But the root meaning of the word is a being that is simply living according to its nature. That is why it calls to me. Feral. It is just so good. So juicy. A creature living its design by its instincts. Living its true nature unbothered by what is deemed polite or expected. Unconditioned. Untamed. Unleashed. May we all be feral. May we all unleash our authentic selves into our homes, communities and lives. May we all remember the creatures we were before the world told us how to behave.
